Musical filmed in London with location scenes at Rome's Piazza del Popolo Picture is due for release in the US on December 18, 2009.

Second autobiography film to be produced by RAI Fiction, directed by Vittorio Sindoni. The story is based on the book written by Sophia's sister, Maria Scicolone. TV broadcast is expected for November 2009.
The shooting started in Rome in September.

Sorrento Honory Citizenship - February 14
Presentation of the city golden key to Sophia at an official ceremony held at the Hotel Hilton Palace, with Sorrento Mayor Marco Fiorentino and MSC shipowner Gianluigi Aponte, also president of Fondazione Sorrento and very close friend to Sophia. Among the guests are Fabrizio del Noce, Elsa Martinelli, Lucio Dalla and Peppino Di Capri.

81st Acacemy Awards - February 22

7th appearance of Sophia at the Academy Awards presentation. Sophia's beauty still strikes strong even at age 74. Dressed in luxurious golden gown by Armani and wearing her own Damiani jewel collection, Sophia presents Best Acress Award to Kate Winslet (Valentino) for her work in "The Reader". Sophia is accompanied by her son Edoardo and the event takes place at Kodak Theater in Los Angeles.

Art for Palliative Care - March 2
Sophia is godmother of an international project including Centre de Soins Continus des Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève, which will raise money through donations of art works to be displayed in many palliative care units with the hope of increasing patients' quality of life as they live the last days of their lives. Sophia was on hand at the ceremony introducing the first piece of art by French artists Patricia Righetti and Robert Combassen.

Oporto's Teatro Plastico
Portuguese drama company lauches on March 27 the Sophia Loren cycle as part of their 20th century icons series, at Hotel Infante Sagres.

MSC Fantasia - July 12
Grand celebration for the christening of new MSC cruise ship in Barcelona with Sophia, dressed in black, as godmother, following an evening gala the day before with tenor José Carreras.

Nine Promotion - November 16
Sophia and co-stars meet in the Oak Room at New York's Plaza Hotel for a breakfast promotion of upcoming release of comedy Nine in America.

Pirelli Calendar Launch Party - November 19
Sophia is among the 800 VIP guests from around the world who attend the launch of the lastest Pirelli calendar in London. The event comprises a daytime conference at the Intercontinental Hotel followed by a gala dinner in the evening at Old Billingsgate, London's old fish market.

John Paul II - April 1
In a letter sent to the Vatican, Sophia calls on leaders of the Catholic Church to approve the beatification of late pope John Paul II. "The memory of John Paul II is jealously guarded in my heart". The Vatican need evidence of two miracles for sainthood.

Carlo's Concert in Naples - October 23
Sophia plans to attend her son's concert at Naples' Auditorio Rai but is stuck in traffic on her way and can't make it on time.

Edoardo Ponti's Home for Sale - November
Sophia's son, Edoardo, lists for sale his Hollywood home, he's had since March 2006, for the asking price of $2.135 million.
