Sophia poses in furs in several printed ads for the Italian fur tailor company based in Pavia. Sophia is blasted right away by animal rights activists and especially by Brigitte Bardot who publishes an open letter to Sophia.

Palm Springs Festival - January 8
Wearing a jeweled choker and dressed in a tailored red suit that emphasizes her still-voluptuous figure, Sophia receives a tribute award at a $250-a-seat black-tie gala at the Wyndham Palm Springs Hotel. Some of her films are also screened during the festival event from January 6 through 16. "I'm very flattered that they gave me this prize. It's a great tribute to all the films I have done." Sophia made the cover of Palm Springs Life magazine the previous month.

Hollywood's Walk of Fame - February 1
Sophia is honored with the Walk's 2000th star, located at 7050 Hollywood Blvd. Expressing her hope that women new to acting will be inspired by seeing her name on the famous sidewalk, Sophia said, "I really wish my shining star will show the way to the so many actresses that start in the career, and may their dreams come true as my dream came true."

Berlin Film Festival - February 18
Sophia receives an Honorary Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival where an retrospective of her films is also presented in her honor. The secret of her success, she says, is being "very much in love with my profession". Festival dates: February 10-21.

Armani Collection - March 2
Sophia attends in Milan the presentation of Armani collections, with other front-row guests including Claudia Cardinale, Ornella Muti and Robert De Niro.

Carlo, Jr.'s Graduation - May 5
Sophia, Carlo and Edoardo are at the USC's Commencement ceremony at Alumni Memorial Park, to witness Carlo, Jr. receive his Master's diploma in Piano Performance. A private celebration organized by Sophia's good friend Anna Strasberg follows at Dan Aykroyd's House of Blues.

Luncheon at US Embassy - June 2
During an official visit of the Clintons in Rome, Sophia is invited to joing Bill and Hillary as well as Silvio and Miriam Berlusconi at Villa Taverna, the official residence of US ambassador to Italy, Reginald Bartholomew.

Annabella Fashion Show - September 26
Sophia and French actor Alain Delon attend the presentation of Annabella furs at Milan's Teatro Nuovo where a crowd of animal rights activists hold fake dollar bills stained in red and a sign reading: "Sophia, with fur coats you have won the Oscar for cruelty."

Christian Dior Show - October 10
Special guest for the presentation of Christian Dior's Spring-Summer 1995 Collection, shown at the Carrousel du Louvre, in Paris.

Armani's 20th anniversary
Sophia celebrates with Armani his 20th anniversary as a designer by opening a new atelier on via Borgonuovo 11 in Milan.

Sophia participates to the Marina Bulgari jewel collection parade at the Grand Hotel in Rome.

Prêt-à-Porter Premieres - December
Sophia attends the premiere of Prêt-à-Porter on December 12 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City and at Avco Theatre in Westwood, CA, 2 days later.

British newspaper Today publishes the headline that Sophia is threatened with death after having supported her niece Alessandra in her electoral campaign.

Annabella Furs Ad - July 24
A full page publicity paid by the Washington-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Italian Anti-Vivisection League is published in the Italian daily Il Mattino asking Sophia to not participate in the publicity campaign for French furrier.

Bardot against Furs - July 27
Brigitte Bardot, former film sex symbol and France's most prominent animal-rights advocate, writes a scathing letter addressed to Sophia for lending her name to the promotion of fur coats. She writes, "I have just learned with immense sadness and profound dismay that you have agreed to sell your name and your image in the most despicable form of advertising, the promotion of furs."

Sophia Turns 60
Sophia celebrates her 60th birthday at her sister's house in Rome with Carlo, Maria and her husband. Magazines throughout the world feature
a glamorous and beautiful Sophia on their front cover as she turns 60.
"I don't feel 60 at all", says Sophia, " I don't even notice it unless other people remind me."
