receive the Premio Napoli even though she was born in Rome and grew up
in the Naples suburb of Pozzuoli. "I have lived all over the world, but
my native home is Naples", were Sophia's comments while president of
Premio Napoli Foundation, Vittorio Pellegrino, said she was the "soul
of Naples".

Statuesque Loren - April
People of Naples vote
overwhelmingly to erect a statue to its famous
native daughter in order to attract tourists. Pozzuoli was a main
Mediterranean port in Roman times and still boasts an amphitheater and
ancient temples. Town residents believe a statue could attract as many
tourists as the Roman ruins.
