Falcon Crest - January
Sophia is asked to join the cast of the coming fall season of Falcon Crest as Francesca Gioberti, half-sister of Angela Channing, the character played by Jane Wyman, star of the series. Ponti demands $1 million as her fee which is turned down by the producers. Sophia's one-time bosom rival, Gina Lollobrigida, takes over at a reported $ 250,000 cachet for the five shows in which she appears.

The Admiral's Daughter - October
TV miniseries based on the book by Victoria Fyodorova recounting the illicit love story of her parents. Sophia wanted Jack Nicholson for the admiral's role but the had no interest.

Sophia receives a standing ovation as she walks, dressed in Valentino sequins, to her front row seat at Rome's Excelsior Hotel as Italian designer Valentino presents his new high fashion collection for Spring-Summer 1984.

Williams Island Dinner - January 12
Sophia announces that she will be a special creative consultant for a resort community near Miami called Williams Island. At the dinner event Sophia is given a Cabbage Patch doll, which she pronounces to be less than beautiful.

Filene Center Reopening - July 30
Sophia attends in Vienna the Filene Center's inaugural concert featuring the National Symphony Orchestra with the voices Placido Domingo and Rosario Andrade.

Fundraiser in Atlanta - September 19
Honored guest for her birthday at private party for major donors of the High Museum of Art which also celebrates its first year in a new building Sophia blows out the candle on the giant birthday cake constructed in the shape of the award-winning museum building.

Columbus Day Parade - October 8
Looking stunning in a white suit, red scarf and red heels, Sophia is the first woman to act as Grand Marshal of the Annual Columbus Day Parade in New York City, an event that celebrates Italian-Americans, with vice-president Bush walking at the front of the parade next to her. Sophia was supposed to have the same role the previous year but the parade had to be canceled because of the death of Terence Cardinal Cooke, cardinal of the Roman Catholic diocese of New York. Prior to the parade, Sophia attends a gala dinner at the Waldorf Hotel, on October 6.

A Night at the Met - October 8
Sophia accompanied by Al Pacino pop in at the Met to catch the last act of Lohengrin and meet backstage, in a private salon, tenor Placido Domingo.

Edoardo De Filippo's Funeral - November 2
Sophia pays a last tribute to her dear friend, actor, writer and director Edoardo De Filippo, at Rome's Palazzo Madama, as she is among the last mourners to enter the chapel in rest where De Filippo's body lies, before the funeral on November 2.

The press announces that the 230 paintings, valued at $4.5 million, confiscated in 1980 by Italian authorities will be exhibited in various Italian museums in Caserta, Lecce, Marino, Brera and Bologna.
