EDITOR'S NOTES

Order of Arrest - April 1

A Rome prosecutor files charges against Sophia and issues an arrest warrant for Carlo accusing them of illegal transfers of money abroad following funding irregularities in The Cassandra Crossing and other movies. Both Sophia and Carlo are French citizens and France does not extradite its citizens for prosecution in other countries.

Filming and Politics - June 21
Governor of the State of New Jersey Brendan Byrne shows up on first shooting day of Firepower in an effort to woo the motion picture industry back to New Jersey. Governor Byrne presents Sophia a "Centennial Bell" asking her to ring it if she ever needs him.

Trial in Rome - June 24
Due to star on June 24 the trial against Ponti is postponed after his attorneys' request to the court for more time. There is an arrest warrant against Ponti but not against Sophia.

Costume Fitting in Rome - July 10
Sophia slips into Italy by train from Paris for a fitting of the outfits she will wear in Wertmuller's film Fatto di sangue at the risk of 6 years of prison. She quickly returns to Paris before Italian authorities notice it.

Villa Marino Seized - September 28
Judiciary officials announce that the beautiful villa in Marino is seized at the request of the Banca Commerciale Italiana by Roman magistrates in default of an alleged debt.

$36-million fine for Ponti - December 6
A $36 million fine plus a 3-year prison sentence are asked for Carlo Ponti at a Roman court by a prosecutor for allegedly transferring $6 million out of Italy illegally. The prosecutor also asks that Sophia, along with Ava Gardner and Richard Harris, be acquitted.
