Maison Christian Dior - January 27
Wearing a camel color coat and a little hat Sophia sits in the front row at the presentation of Christian Dior' collection in Paris. She meets Dior's designer Marc Bohan at the reception after the show.

Josephine Baker's 50th Anniversary of Music Hall - April 8
Sophia and Carlo attend the variety show at Bobino, in Paris, followed by a party at the Bristol. Among the guests are also Grace of Monaco, Alain Delon and Mick Jagger. It is one of the rare public events of the year where the couple are seen together. Josephine Baker dies a few days later and Sophia attends the religious service at La Madeleine church on April 15.

La Pupa's Hamburg Premiere - April 16
Sophia and Carlo are in Hamburg to promote and their new film co-starring Marcello Mastroianni.

Catwalk - May
Sophia models for Christian Dior in Paris. A series of photography sessions are published in many European magazines during the summer.

Trip to Japan - May
Sophia flies to Japan in May with her secretary Ines in order to promote her new movie La pupa del gangster while Carlo remains at the Villa with the children. She is back in Paris on May 21.

Italian Fortnight in Dallas - October 10
Sophia and Carlo travel to Dallas, TX in October for an Italian Fornight sponsored by upscale department store Neiman Marcus and to host a press preview on October 11 of La pupa del gangster. Held every year at the downtown store, the Fortnights were splashy cultural celebrations that greatly broadened the horizons of north Texas at the time. Dallas' Southern Methodist University also honor Sophia with a retrospective of her films. On the 13, Carlo and Sophia are in Chicago for Columbus Day. Finally, they visit Hollywood for the first time in eight years, where they meet American producer Zev Braun who co-produced La pupa del gangster with Ponti.

Wrecked Marriage - February

Newspapers and magazines around the world start spreading the rumour that Sophia and Carlo don't live together anymore and that a separation is eminent. Sophia lives in Paris with her two children and Carlo in Rome. In a communiqué published on March 28, Sophia and Carlo deny the persistent reports. "We are presently with our children in Switzerland for the Easter Holidays and we shall return immediately afterward to Paris, where we have our residence."

Kidnap Attempt at Villa Marino - March 12

According to Eva Express magazine, Carlo Ponti is trapped by kidnappers on March 12 as he is driving his Alpha Romeo to his villa in Marino. He manages to escape with the help of his bodyguards riding a car behind. From then on, Sophia will fear living with her two children at the Villa.

Bürgenstock Reunion - March / April
Sophia, who lives in Paris with her two sons, and Carlo, who lives in Rome, spend the Easter holidays in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, their favorite retreat nest in the late 1950s and in the 1960s. While everyone is away, unknown criminals try to break into their villa in Marino but are driven off by the men charged with defending the premises. One of Ponti's Alsatian dogs is killed.

Donation to Central Texas Church - June
Sophia gives Rev. Anthony Goosens five ruby rings to be auctioned off in order to help in building a new church near Llano, TX. Sophia and Rev. had been writing each other for nearly ten years, after Sophia helped financially a French woman named Mme Léthien, get heart surgery in Houston, TX .

Holidays in the French Alps - December
The Pontis vacation in Mégève, France, where Sophia learns the basics of skiing.
