Italy, September 1971 - January 1972 Man of la Mancha Italy, January - March FILM PROJECTS The Love Song of Mara Lumera Announced in January the film is scheduled to be go before cameras in the fall with Dino Risi as director and Marcello Mastroianni as her co-star. Emilio Schubert, Sophia's personal designer in the 1950's and couturier of royal families, dies of a heart attack in Rome at age 67. Amalfi Villa in a Film Exterior scenes for
the movie Che? by Roman Polanski and starring Marcello Mastroianni are
filmed at Ponti's villa in Ravello on the Amalfi coast. Sophia rarely
went to the villa because it dated back to Ponti's first marriage and
his ex-wife still shared use of it.
Vacation in Yugoslavia - April Once her part in Man of La Mancha in done, Sophia,
pregnant, flies to Yugoslavia where she rests at Sveti Stefan,
a luxury town-hotel considered the most exclusive resort on
Montenegro's coast.
United Nations Medal - July 7 To celebrate its
twentieth year in Italy the United Nations Food and Agriculture
Organization casts Sophia in the role of Ceres, the ancient Italian
goddess of
grain and cult-object for a commemorative coin which is sold to help
