Ponti is granted permission in 1970 to film a TV series in Russia on Anna Karenina with Sophia starring in the title role but the project aborts in 1971.

Biki Show in Rome - January 20

Wearing a maxi brown dress with the skirt unbuttoned Sophia steals the show as she attends the presentation of spring fashion collection by Italian designer Biki.

J.F.K Airport - May 10

Sophia arrives in New York City where she is to shoot Lady Liberty, wearing no jewelry. She comments to journalists, "I don't like jewelry anymore. It is too dangerous... I canceled it from the dictionary" She stays at the Hampshire House again, the same place she was robbed in October 1970.

Book Promotion - December 8

Promotion of cookbook In cucina con amore with the "Gala sulla Raffaello" event which is held on a cruise boat from Genoa to Naples. Follows an evening gala where a parade of extravaganza dishes are served.

Fashion

Sophia makes the cover of Ladies' Home Journal, photographed by Neal Barr, in January. In the 1970''s, often dressed by Christian Dior, Sophia appears on the cover of most fashion and women magazines as she is considered one of the world's most elegant women.

Baby of the Year

German baby food company names Carlo Jr. 1969's Baby of the Year and plans on using an Oskar Kokoschka painting of him on their products. The famous painter had been granted permission by Sophia to paint the baby for exhibit in London's Marlborough Galleries but not to appear in baby food publicity.

Kidnap Threats - February
Police guard the Villa following an intrusion by an unidentified
man and a reported kidnap threat against two-year-old Carlo.

Gades in Madrid - October
Sophia attends a live performance by the famous Spanish choreographer and flamenco dancer Antonio Gades at Florida Park in Madrid.
