Sophia is a the premiere of the stage production Porgy and Bess at Apollo Theatre in Zurich.

The Millionairess Press Conference - May 18
To publicize the start of her new movie, the producers arrange for
Sophia to take the boat train from Paris to London with a final arrival at Victoria Station. A press conference follows at the Ritz.

David di Donatello - July 30
Sophia and Carlo attend the David di Donatello awards ceremony in Taormina where Cary Grant receives the Best Foreign Actor award for his role in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest. The plaque Sophia receives and holds during the ceremonies actually belongs to Elizabeth Taylor for Best Foreign actress from previous year.

Oscars of the Two Worlds - July 31
Sophia Loren comes to the ceremony, at a country estate in Cantazaro,
to get the prize for acting. She walks off with a prize for medicine while German professor Johannes Kellin gets Sophia's prize. Fans mob Sophia's limousine when she tries to leave. Finally, she has to give up and boards a police patrol car to escape.

Arrival in Madrid - November 14
Sophia's arrival in Madrid looks like C.B. DeMille's "The Greatest Show on Earth." Flying from Rome she is accompanied by her personal hairdresser, still photographer, make-up man, wardrobe girl, manager and personal
musician to provide "mood music" outside her dressing room between scenes.

Bedded with the Flu - February
<>Sophia develops complications with the flu as she becomes allergic to the antibiotics her doctor prescribed. She spends several weeks resting at her chalet in Bürgenstock after spending a few months in Paris.

Piano Lessons Denied - February
Sophia asks pianist Georgy Cziffra for pianio lessons but he turns downs her request.

A Millionairess without Jewels - May 28
While Sophia is at the Heathrow airport to pick up Carlo, burglars steal her jewels - estimated at $500,000 dollars and uninsured - at her rented house in Hertfordshire, the Norwegian Barn. In a press conference, she announces that she will give $50,000 to whoever helps her find her jewels collection back. "It is so unjust. My jewels meant so much to me. They were a diary of my success, each one a milestone. They were proof that I would never be poor again." A 10-second broadcast on June 3 on British TV is bought by Sophia for the return of her jewels with a reminder of the reward offered.

Peter Sellers' Infatuation

Sellers' infatuation for Sophia during the shooting of The Millionairess is so intense that his life will be perturbed for decades. Stephen Hopkins' film The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, released in 2004, demonstrates well his behavior toward Sophia.

Bigamy Charges - August 23
Sophia and Carlo are summoned before Roman judge Giulio Franco on August 23 in the infamous bigamy case after bigamy charges were filed in June. Sophia is questioned behind closed doors at Rome's Hall of Justice Sophia refuses to pose for photographers as she enters the court.

Miscarriage - September

Some sources indicate Sophia has her first miscarriage in September during the shooting of La Ciociara after she faints three times on the set. She confides a month later to the London press that she was in fact pregnant.

Christmas holidays - December

Sophia receives from Carlo a complete set of jewelry for Christmas which they spend in Rome.
